VIJAY CHECHANI, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.C.C.P
Board Certified by ABIM in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine
Dr. Vijay Chechani has been in practice in Roswell, NM since April 1992. Dr. Chechani graduated from the premier medical school in India, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1982. He decided to move to the USA for further training after his graduation. He did a year of lab research in neonatology at St Louis University before beginning his Internal Medicine Residency at Cook County Hospital, Chicago (1984-1987). He then moved to Brooklyn for fellowship training in Pulmonary Disease at State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, NY. This was a busy fellowship program with rotations in four New York area hospitals (Downstate University Hospital, Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn VA and Woodhull City Hospital). After finishing his fellowship in 1989, Dr. chechani then became a faculty member at University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Environmental Medicine at University of Missouri, Columbia as well as Chief of Pulmonary Medicine at Harry S. Truman, V.A. Hospital, Columbia, MO from 1989 to 1992. Warm weather and skiing drew him to Roswell, NM in 1992. His practice location has changed a few times while being in Roswell (Casa De Medicina, Covenant Family HealthCare and Kymera Independent Physicians). In January 2009, he finally moved his practice to the current location at Sleep Diagnostic Centers of New Mexico, LLC. Dr. Chechani is board certified by American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine. He has previleges at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and Roswell Regional Hospital.
Dr. Chechani has achieved a number of honors during his career. He is a Fellow of American College of Physicians (F.A.C.P.) and Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians(F.C.C.P.) He was elected the President of New Mexico Chapter of American Thoracic Society in 2000. He served as Governor of New Mexico for American College of Chest Physicians from 1994-1999. SLEEP LAB MANAGER:
Codi Dilley, RRT,SDS
Codi is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and a Registered Polysomnography Tech. He supervises the work of night polysomnography techs and scores sleep studies. He also does daytime sleep studies for patients who are night shift workers. He performs multiple sleep latency testing for patients suspected to have narcolepsy.
OFFICE NURSE:
Tammie Ortiz
Tammie has been with Dr. Chechani for about 25 years. She knows most of his patients well. She is the person to talk to if you need refills on medication or if you are having a problem and need to see Dr. Chechani urgently. She also obtains prior authorizations and schedules all tests done at the hospital.

She schedules all office and sleep lab appointments. She can put you on waiting list for sleep study if you want to have your sleep study ASAP (she will contact you if we have a cancellation)
